Angelo Madalin says: ” Mother, when I grow up I will be the greatest violonist ever, so I will be able to provide for you, you won’t lack a thing”
Will he? Can he play his violin, now that he has no home, no decent clothes and such poor food? He plays his violin in school, for three hours everyday, but is this enough?
Angelo is worth fighting for, in order to save both him and his hopes. Look at his drawings! He smiles as he plays, dreamily.
Angelo is a Rroma child, and musical genius runs with his genes. He lives with his parents. Given a chance, not before long he will bring honor to his kin and country.
Adina Tulbure, his teacher.
My name is Adina Tulbure.
I have been teaching for sixteen years. I also put in long hours working as a voluntary Deputy-President of AGIRo Tulbure (General Association of Romanian Teachers), Director of Innovative Teaching Technologies of IRSCA -Gifted Education, Director Center for Teaching Innovation, as I wish to make a difference in the life of the children I work with.
I am writing to you as I am confronted with cases of special needs children whom I want to support.
First of all, Angelo: a 2nd grade Roma boy is in my class, in National Arts College Queen Mary, in Constanta, Romania.
he is about to drop school because of the poor social and economic condition of his family – which is precisely what we, the the community of teachers and parents wish to prevent.
Nastase Angelo Madalin is now 8, ranking top of his age group and doing amazingly well playing his violin. His parents need to raise their children and see them therough their school life, but having hardly graduated their middle school, their chances of finding decent jobs are scant.
Angelo has an elder sister, a student in the same school, playing the piano and the flute. He has another sister in the kindergarten. These children get the warmest appreciation of us, teachers, as well as of all those who meet them.
So far we managed to get his mother back from Italy, where she worked but had huge integration problems due to age, race asnd poor schooling and work expertise: by raising the money for her travel expenses. We also did counseling work with the family, in view of their better social integration, advising a second chance schooling program and looling for jobs, for them.
We also made the case public over the Internet, getting in touch with foundations and organizations focused on Roma special needs children. Angelo is a perfect Roma child ambassador.
Angelo’s mother helps greatly with her gifted children’s education, as obvious in the way they perform. Actually the Nastase parents could work as excellent school mediators, if properly trained for it, as soon as they graduate their high schools. Who knows, they might even get to teach in Roma, as native speakers: they both have good language skills and the willingness to do what is best for their family.

The professor Florian Colceag, president of IRSCA Gifted Education Association urges us to value every child’s gift, no matter his condition, because God puts His gifts wherever He thinks is right no matter the life conditions. In every talented child hides a genious. „ The faith of every child matters! A talented child living in disadvantaged conditions matters even more because they can change history for the better. In fact, indifference is almost as guilty as aggression”
